bloxberg at the European Commission: advancing trusted infrastructure for decentralized science

Last week, bloxberg participated in discussions at the European Commission in Brussels on the future of decentralized science (DeSci) and the growing importance of trusted digital infrastructures for research.

Sandra Vengadasalam and Friederike Kleinfercher presented bloxberg as a trust and verification infrastructure designed to support secure, transparent, and interoperable scientific workflows across institutional boundaries. The exchange, hosted by the WIN team at the European Commission, brought together stakeholders from European blockchain initiatives, including the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI).

A practitioner perspective was contributed by Michael J. Bojdys (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin / BioBlock DATIpilot), highlighting real-world use cases ranging from data integrity to technology transfer and consortium governance.

Beyond the webinar itself, the Brussels visit also enabled further exchanges with European stakeholders, including EUROPEUM-EDIC, around potential future collaborations at the intersection of Web3, digital sovereignty, and trusted research infrastructures.

Across the discussions, one theme became particularly clear: many of the biggest challenges in science today are no longer purely technical, but increasingly centered around trust — especially in an era shaped by AI-generated content, complex collaboration structures, and growing demands for digital sovereignty.

The conversations in Brussels reflected a growing momentum around decentralized science and trusted, institutionally governed infrastructures for research.
